The other day while playing with these little assemblages I had a flashback to when I was maybe 11 or 12, on the bus home from school and day dreaming about going to play with my dollhouse, little dolls and miniature things. I remember feeling embarrassed by this, thinking the very idea of playing (let alone playing with dolls and little toys) was ridiculous and something I should’ve outgrown. I also remember the feeling I’d get when playing (playing involved sorting tiny household objects from my mom’s 1950’s Barbie kitchen stuff, rearranging tiny furniture and setting it all up in different configurations with little dolls in their 1970’s house). I know now that what I was experiencing during that play was a flow state contributing to nervous system regulation and healthy dopamine releases. Thirty something years later I have fully embraced this desire to play and create. Still getting that much-needed sense of regulation, but without the cloud of embarrassment or doubt. #goplay (( and come see these play-based creations in my @littlebitesart show / opening 8/21 + weekends through 9/20 ))
