Hello! My name is Andrea Dupree / Curious Bluebird. I’m an interdisciplinary artist & educator based in Northern New Mexico. I’m currently focused on creating fiber art sculptures & wearables, and facilitating classes & workshops in art & Yoga for all ages.

My creative practice is continually evolving and growing. Since graduating with a BA in Studio Arts in 2004 my creative work has been supported by my various arts-adjacent jobs in non-profits and teaching contexts, as well as by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana Division of the Arts and small regional arts and environmental organizations. After working primarily as an Early Childhood Educator from 2016-2022 in 2022 I completed my Master’s in Innovative Early Childhood Education with a focus on the Reggio Emilia approach. I’m also a Registered Yoga Teacher with a background in dance. My more than 20 years of experience facilitating art, mindfulness, Yoga and creative movement experiences for children, teens, and adults informs my creative practice and artwork today. Since 2020 I’ve worked as an independent artist & educator through my company Curious Bluebird, LLC.

In 2026 I’m participating in the “Bound by the High Desert: Contemporary Fiber Art” exhibition at the Historic Santa Fe Foundation’s El Zaguán gallery (5/15-6/20), a solo show featuring my fiber art wearables & sculptures at Little Bites Gallery in Santa Fe (opening 8/21/26) and will present a large-scale felt, found object and video installation, Gathered and Felt, for the New Mexico Museum of Art’s Vladem Contemporary Window Box Project in Santa Fe (November-March). I’m also a recipient of the 2026 New Mexico Creative Industries Business Expansion Grant, which supports the continued growth of my fiber art studio practice and educational programming.

Artist Statement

My artwork explores the interconnected relationships between humans, nature, memory, and the unseen. Working primarily in fiber, I create sculptures that function as contemporary altars. These pieces invite reflection, ritual, and reconnection.

Using wool, plant fibers and other natural materials & found objects, I build textured abstract forms through wet felting, needle felting, and hand embroidery. Many materials are sourced from thrift stores, estate sales, inherited collections, eco-conscious suppliers, and the landscape surrounding my home in Northern New Mexico. Through this process of gathering and transformation, the materials carry traces of history, place, and human touch.

My creative practice is shaped by animism, ecofeminism, and ecological attunement. I approach materials as collaborators and allow intuitive processes to guide the emergence of form. Influences include the aesthetics of Catholic iconography and ritual I encountered growing up in South Louisiana, as well as spiritual and land-based practices that emphasize attention, care, and relationship.

Across felt sculpture, fiber installations, video, and land-based work, I am creating objects and environments that invite quiet reflection and renewed awareness of our relationship with seen & felt worlds.
